FEI World Reining Masters
Reining
Canada is pleased to announce that Canada will be represented by two riders at
the FEI World Reining Masters to be held at the NRHA Futurity & Adequan
Championship Show on November 29th. The $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters is
one of the most prestigious reining events in the world and is an annual
competition to find the most elite individual reiners in the world. The top
rider, according to a point system, in each National Federation qualifies to
compete in the World Reining Masters. The USA, Canada, Italy, Germany and
Switzerland are allowed to send their top two riders as they were the five
finalist countries at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
The highly skilled reiners from more than a dozen different
countries are expected to travel across oceans, continents and around the globe
to compete for a purse of $100,000 and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in two
divisions; Open and Restricted. It is a consensus of the reiners who compete in
the Masters that it's an honor to be chosen to represent their country in this
prestigious event. Reining Canada congratulates Dany Tremblay of St-Damase,
Quebec and Gregg Lauder of Cochrane, Alberta for achieving the honor of
representing Canada at this prestigious event.

Young Riders
The 5th Annual Canadian
Reining Breeders Classic was held on September 13th-15th, 2007 in Winnipeg, MB
and if you were there on Saturday morning you knew it was all about the youth!!
The morning was filled with NRHA Youth classes, Youth Affiliate Finals, Team
Tournaments, The Reining Canada Young Rider Medal Western Finals and a
celebration lunch for all the youth.

Congratulations to our RC Young Rider Western Finals Champion
Allison Love of Winnipeg, MB, riding her Dad's talented gelding Peppy Chic Olena.
Congratulations also to Co- reserve Champions Stephanie Gruhle of Winnipeg, MB,
riding her Palomino Stallion Great Captain Jac and Kylie Wasiuta of Winnipeg,
MB, riding Watch Tiger Jack. It is very exciting to see that all three of these
winning horses are Canadian bred. The girls were thrilled to be presented with
Reining Canada Crystal Maple Leaf Awards.
The NRHA Youth Classes and Affiliate finals saw riders
competing from all of the western provinces. Congratulations to the following
youth who were the top riders in both events and have received an invitation to
compete in the Youth Finals at the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City this November.
In first place in the Youth 14-18 was Shelbie Friesen from Saskatoon, SK, making
an impressive run with her horse Rio Eyes. In second place were Austin Selhof,
from Horsefly, BC and Lean on Chex. Austin also wowed the audience with his
crowd pleasing freestyle program. Taking the 3rd place spot were Allison Love of
Winnipeg, MB, and Peppy Chic Olena. 4th place position was secured by Erica Lee
of Cochrane, AB and Chic to a Lady. In the Youth 13 and Under Class, we saw
Kelsey Wiens; from Winnipeg, MB and her talented gelding take the first place
ribbon and Courtney Badura of Taber, AB and her horse Jessie Ann Fritz take the
2nd place position.
One of the highlights of the morning was the NRHA Youth Team
Tournament. The suspense mounted as all of the youth were brought back into the
arena for the award presentations, as none of the youth knew in advance what
team they were placed on. Six teams named after NRHA Million Dollar Riders, were
randomly selected to include 2 riders in the 14 to 18 category and one 13 and
under rider. Congratulations to the top Youth Team that consisted of, Jessica
Green of Winnipeg, MB riding Maybe Tomorrow, Riley Classen of Winnipeg, MB
riding Poster Boy Solano and Shelbie Friesen of Saskatoon, SK riding Rio Eyes.
Each of these riders received a championship buckle, 1st place medal, and a $600
Scholarship award from NRHA. The 2nd place teams shared a scholarship of $1050
and 3rd place shared a scholarship of $750. All of the teams competing received
NRHA Medallions.
After the awards were presented, pictures taken and horses
bathed and tucked in their stalls all of the youth competing were invited to a
lunch in the lounge hosted by Senior Director of Affiliate Alliance Programs,
Debbie Drinko of NRHA. Cheeseburger, chips and drinks were enjoyed as well as
great conversations, ideas and suggestions. Thank you to Team Canada WEG Silver
Medalist Lance Griffin who took the time to be an impromptu speaker and answer
the many questions put to him. It was exciting to listen to these young riders
and to hear their goals, desires and commitment to their sport. The meeting
ended with the elections of the NRHA Western Affiliate Youth Representatives.
Congratulations to Allison Love, of Winnipeg, MB who was elected as the 14-18
representative and to Riley Classen of Winnipeg, MB who was elected at the 13
and Under representative. We know you will do an outstanding job representing
the Western Affiliate Provinces.
