Information from Reining Canada
(March 17, 2009)
NAA Statement
Reining Canada "RC" is the Canadian National
Organization that performs the functions of a National Association
Affiliate "NAA" for the National Reining Horse Association "NRHA". Under
this guideline, its job is to promote the NRHA programs to NRHA Members
and Affiliates across Canada.
The Board of Reining Canada has been hesitant to respond to
the accusations brought forward by a group of people, however, we feel as an
organization that represents the majority of Reiners in Canada we need to
clarify some information for our members.
A minority of members of Reining Canada and several
non-members, Mr.Pat Eggie, in particular, have been voicing their opposition to
the current structure and providing misinformation. In addition, Reining Alberta
has taken it upon themselves to send letters to the NRHA and members accusing
Reining Canada of mismanaging funds, and breaking NRHA By-laws without any
legitimate proof.
Since November 2008 RC has approached Reining Alberta, on
three different occasions, to meet and facilitate communication with Reining
Canada. Reining Canada is yet to be taken up on such an offer. It is apparent to
Reining Canada that having a working relationship is not an option with this
Affiliate's Board of Directors.
One of Reining Alberta's complaints was that they did not
receive anything back from Reining Canada. Reining Alberta hosts three NRHA
shows a year. They and their members would benefit more by participating in the
NRHA programs offered. The NAA's mission is to promote the NRHA's programs. If
someone does not participate they do not reap the benefits.
Reining Canada Representatives on the NRHA
Board.
-
Reining Canada adheres to the NRHA National
Association Rules in addition to, the International Affiliate Programs
provided by NRHA.
-
Reining Canada adheres to its own Bylaws as
well as the NRHA Bylaws.
Reining Canada invites you to look on Page 11 of
the NRHA 2009 Rulebook.
Section 1 a) Regional Affiliates within the US are to be grouped into
Affiliate Regions. NRHA members from each affiliate Region shall elect at
least one director to the NRHA Board.
Section 1 b) Each National Association Affiliate with 100 members
shall elect one director to the NRHA Board.
As stated in the NRHA Bylaws there is a distinction between Regional Affiliates
and NAA's. Following the intent of the IAP, which was to provide autonomy within
separate countries, Reining Canada elected its Board of Directors and selected
two qualified and willing individuals to represent Canada on the NRHA Board.
Reining Canada has stated NUMEROUS times the benefits of the NAA including the
right to have two NRHA Board Seats.
The NRHA and Countries this By-law affects are now reviewing this By-law and its
interpretation. As previously stated Reining Canada will adhere to any revision
that is accepted.
It is important to mention that Canada is much better represented as a nation
than as simply regions within the US system. The only consistent concern that
members express across the countries is the cost. If the NRHA supports RC and
the association can achieve some degree of stability, the directors will do
whatever is possible to lower the cost and provide whatever financial support it
can directly to the provincial affiliates.
Reining Canada sincerely thanks all the Affiliates and Members who have taken
the time and effort to understand the facts and for supporting the NRHA and
reining in Canada.
Reining Canada will await NRHA's decision.
Sincerely,
2009 Board of Directors
Reining Canada
